Stories from Our Team
Bosten Arcand
Senior Staff Accountant, FairWave
Bosten Arcand
Now: Senior Staff Accountant, FairWave
Was: Barista, The Roasterie and Messenger
For Bosten Arcand, coffee has always been the through-line.
Starting as a part-time barista at The Roasterie's Woodside location, Bosten began covering shifts at Messenger, familiarizing himself with both brands. As he developed a passion for coffee, he took on roles as a coffee lead, assistant general manager, and Roasterie tour guide.
It was on those tours that something clicked. Instead of coffee questions, visitors kept asking business questions — and Bosten got curious. "Accounting is considered the language of business," he says, "and I figured the best way to learn business would be through that language."
With an English degree already in hand, Bosten went back to school for a Master's in accounting, then joined FairWave as an accounting specialist. Today he's a Senior Staff Accountant. The role allows Bosten to pursue his goals while staying close to coffee.
“The job I was hired for is a lot different from what I’m doing now,” says Bosten. “But the consistent string through it all is coffee."

What keeps Adrienne going? The people. "Everyone I work with puts a lot of their heart into what they do," she says. Ask for her favorite cafe and Adrienne will point you to Up Coffee: tucked into an industrial neighborhood, Up’s cafe is off the beaten path yet always bustling. "If you know, you know."

Will started as a barista at Messenger's flagship location in 2020 and quickly became coffee-obsessed. "I fell in love with the care required to make coffee taste very good," he says. That passion carried him into a market educator role, then account management, and most recently into his current position as Director of Hugo Tea.
His advice to anyone starting out in specialty coffee: "Be a sponge. Be willing to take opportunities and risks along the way."
When Will’s not working, you'll find him listening to records, hanging out with his cats, or cooking a big meal to share with his partner.
Brandon Wilson

Brandon Wilson
NOW: Creative Director, FairWave
WAS: Creative Director & Co-Founder, Messenger Coffee Co.
Brandon Wilson didn't set out to work in coffee. He was building experiential websites when some friends in action sports invited him to join their new venture. Brandon said yes.
The team held leadership meetings at a Lenexa, KS cafe called Black Dog Coffeehouse. They fell in love with it – and when the opportunity came to buy it, they did. From that foundation, they launched Ibis Bakery and Messenger Coffee, and Brandon leaned all the way in to coffee.
As Creative Director for FairWave, his role has grown from stewarding two brands to fourteen. "I like to create a visual language that talks no matter what the vehicle is," he says. Through his work, Brandon helps each brand tell their stories in their own unique – and beautiful – language.
